Last night, 15/4, i was in the solidarity protest for the release of Marios Zervas. A peaceful and quiet protest. Riding our bicycles, ringing our bells, 3.000 people followed and protested... Marios Zervas has already been imprisoned in the prison Korydallos, Section A, for a month. The 28year-old swimming teacher was arrested during the massive protest on the 11th of March, in Athens.
Marios had dreadlocks and was holding a backpack. The cop who arrested him, testified against him with heavy accusations. Audiovisual material and a dozen of other civilians demonstrate that Marios’ face was NOT covered, NO molotov and NO fire was around, and in the backpack there was a towel and a bathing suit -since he was planning to attend his swimming class after the protest.
However, ignoring the above, Marios was brought to custody. The point is that when someone is imprisoned with no elements and no evidence, things are not quite promising... You never know if tomorrow it will be you or me. I've been thinking of all the times I've been to protests, and how lucky I am that never to have been hit or busted. So it' s only a matter of luck. And when someone is behind bars for a whole month, with no reason, democracy is demolished.
